HUM-B-LE Development Program Process

This step measures the baseline starting point of the team’s culture and identifies potential “hot spots” of opportunity for improving the employees’ experience. We utilize standard questions from engagement and psychological surveys as a starting point with the client adding custom questions of interest. This step also includes interviews with 5-10 employees throughout the team to provide experiential insight.

In this step, we review survey results with the client and identify 1-3 key objectives for improvement that will be the focus of the HUM-B-LE development process. Improvement goals are defined and are shared by the client and the Humessence team.

Growing Emotional Intelligence (EI) in leaders is the foundational focus of the HUM-B-LE process. EI is the attribute that correlates most strongly with leadership success, and it can be both learned and lost. 8-12 hours of training is provided to the leadership and includes both exercises and consistent practices that grow both individual and team EI.

In this step, additional training, processes, or tools are taught and implemented to ensure that all the objectives defined in step 2 (Design) are addressed. This will be a step that is customized for the individual needs of the client. One example is, if the team has a need for learning how to more effectively create a strategy, a training class will be given to learn and practice an effective process for developing a strategy.

Another basis in creating an effective leadership approach is to define a consistent and effective succession planning system. This helps existing leaders develop future leaders and minimizes the disruption of a leadership change on the culture. Some clients may already have a process and therefore this step is optional.

Historical leadership development programs often end when training ends which creates a low probability that improvements in leadership are maintained. In this step we provide individual and team monthly coaching. We also facilitate a meeting where the client team identifies practices, processes or tools that they can implement in order to lock in improvements. Examples include creating feedback meetings, utilizing mindfulness practices, holding development meetings, implementing regular surveys and responses, etc.

This is the final step where the initial survey is repeated and the client and Humessence team review the results to ensure that cultural goals have been met. This step occurs 4-6 months after Sustainment is initiated. Based on the results, the contract is either concluded or an additional action is defined to address a result that hasn’t met the predefined goal.
